From 28 to 31 August 2026, the Amyloidosis Alliance joined the global cardiology community at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Congress 2026 in Munich, alongside the French Association against Amyloidosis (AFCA).
With more than 33,800 participants from around the world, ESC Congress remains one of the most important international gatherings for cardiovascular medicine. The 2026 edition once again provided a unique opportunity for healthcare professionals, researchers, patient organisations and industry representatives to exchange knowledge and discuss the future of cardiovascular care.
Amyloidosis takes an increasingly prominent place
One of the highlights of this year’s congress was the unprecedented visibility of cardiac amyloidosis, particularly ATTR cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM).
More than 90 sessions dedicated to amyloidosis were held during the congress, reflecting the growing recognition of the disease within the cardiology community.
The discussions covered major developments in the field, including:
- earlier diagnosis and improved disease recognition;
- advances in cardiac imaging;
- better patient pathways and multidisciplinary care;
- new and emerging therapeutic approaches;
- and the growing importance of collaboration between healthcare professionals, researchers and patient organisations.
These developments are particularly encouraging for patients and families affected by cardiac amyloidosis, while also highlighting the need to continue improving awareness and reducing diagnostic delays.
Bringing the patient voice to the international community
For the Amyloidosis Alliance, participation in major international scientific meetings is an important part of our mission.
Scientific progress must go hand in hand with the experience and needs of patients. By taking part in events such as ESC Congress, the Alliance helps strengthen dialogue between patients, patient organisations, clinicians, researchers and other stakeholders involved in amyloidosis care.
The Munich congress was also an opportunity to strengthen connections within the international amyloidosis community. Representatives of the Alliance, including Catilena Bibiloni from Spain and David Gregory from the United Kingdom, met with colleagues and partners to exchange perspectives and discuss future opportunities for collaboration.
Turning scientific progress into better patient care
The growing attention given to amyloidosis at ESC Congress is an important signal for the entire community.
However, scientific advances only have a real impact when they reach patients. The Amyloidosis Alliance will continue to work internationally to promote awareness, earlier diagnosis, access to appropriate care, research, information and patient advocacy.
Together, we can help ensure that progress made in research and clinical practice translates into meaningful improvements in the lives of people living with amyloidosis.
